A message from the President
There is no doubt that the 2017 season has once again been full of highlights and outstanding achievements both on and off the ground for the Bulleen-Templestowe District Junior Football Club.
Thank you to all coaches, team managers, assistants and players for another fantastic year. Results wise 3 teams played finals football, all 3 playing off in the Grand Final and all 3 taking home the prized Premiership Flags. Congratulations go out to Coach Steve Jackson and the Under 15 Girls, Coach Andrew Verga our Colts 1 team and Coach Peter Sartori and our Colts 2 teams. Steve and Peter along with James Sutherland (Youth Girls) and Nic Moore (under 14’s) were nominated for the Inner East Region Coach of the Year awards and Andrew Verga took out the Bullants Coach of the Year Award, well done to all fantastic recognition and a testament to your dedication and efforts.
On a players front congratulations to all our Club Trophy winners with special mention to all our invitees to the YJFL Best and Fairest night and in particular Dean Papadopoulos for taking out the Under 12 Green Best and Fairest; congratulations to Mel Betuna, Laura Robertson and Laura Mayne for all being selected in the YJFL Youth Girls Team of the Year. To all our Colts & Youth Girls players who will be making the transition into senior football at the Bullants and those in TAC Cup squads at Oakleigh Charges, Northern Knights and Eastern Ranges all at the Bullants wish you the very best we’ll keep a keen eye on all your progress.
The Club invested in the services of the Vida Coach Development Program to enable our coaches to develop and provide a better experience for our players this proved to be a fantastic resource and success for our coaches.
The Bullants Auskick program is an integral part of the Club and this season with a new co-ordinator in charge Despina Alleri the program continues to grow and develop. The Bullants Auskick was nominated for the Inner East Regional Auskick Centre of the Year which is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the great work Despina is doing in her first season and the support she receives from her volunteers.
Other highlights for the season continue to be the long held tradition of the Sunday Night Family nights, no other club in the League have this on a weekly basis like we do and can boast the numbers that continually attend week by week. This has long been a Bullant tradition that goes back to the early years of the Club and only serves to build on the great community feel that we have at the Bullants.
This season we had two of the most incredible nights held at the Club ever. Our Ted Kelly ANZAC Day Round this year being held in conjunction with the Memorial Round for Matthew Wilkins who passed away suddenly from meningococcal and the Fight MND Night with our special guest Neale Daniher who was revisiting the club after 37 years where the club raised close to $6000 on the night. Both nights were greatly attended and supported by the Bullant faithful and were absolutely awe inspiring nights that will never be forgotten.
Successful clubs are made up of special people and the Bullants are no exception, Trevor Glassborow and Lucy Blanchard were awarded Life Membership for services to the Club, with Lucy also taking out the Club Person of the Year and Nic Moore taking out the President’s Award. As this is also my last season as President I would like to acknowledge the contribution made and support given by the General Committee and the Executive Committee who have served this club incredibly over many seasons.
The Club is undeniably a better place for all of your efforts and contributions…I and the Club can’t thank you all enough. This gives a new generation of parents the opportunity to take the baton and continue to build on the legacy…I urge you all to take the baton and run, it will be a great journey that will pass before you know it.
Thank you for a fantastic 2017 season, I wish you and your families a happy and safe festive season and all the best for the New Year…Go the Bullants!
Immediate Past President, Bulleen Templestowe Junior Football Club
